Going to the Moon
Into the void

For the early years, the concept of 3D space and position may be too much so we can start by getting them to think in terms of where things are.

Maybe start with the shape of the world and what's the difference between being on the ground or up in the sky.

Reinforce the idea of not only being in front, or next to but also above or below.

Three dimensional space is all about use of x- y- and z- axes, like in a box or cuboid.

Get them to work with boxes and cubes. Get them to stack them and make objects from them. Lego bricks would be ideal and make stories by adding characters.

See if they can describe position in terms of how many bricks high and wide and along.

Let them think about measuring, whether that be in box lengths, widths or heights - or in units of length.
